You've made it through the first pass ....

If you are a very close match for the experience and abilities in the job specification, you might by-pass the Possibles and get onto the Likely pile.
This small pile generally forms the basis of the Short List.
The Second Pass can usually be completed quite rapidly.
The applications on the possible pile are compared with those on the likely pile and a few more are selected.
The reader will then go over the likely pile again in much greater detail and will probably whittle it down a little further to the final short list.
For a hotly-contested position with a high level of application, anything from 85-95% of all applications end up somewhere else - usually the bin. Getting to the short list is a tremendous accomplishment in these competitive times.
The lucky few on the short list will then be invited to interview.
