You've been invited to interview? Congratulations! You have just passed one of the toughest examinations of your life. There are very few exams out there that require a 80-95% mark to pass; but you have done it - you have made it from a huge pile of CVs down to the short list.

It's an ancient cliche, but that doesn't make it any less true: You already have the job. (Or, more accurately, someone out there thinks you can do the job. In today's market, NO-ONE is going to give you an hour of their time unless they think you can do the job.)

And yet many people face into the interview process with a sense of absolute dread - why?

"I'm well qualified, I have good experience and yet I never get hired after the interview. I don't know what I'm doing wrong ..."
"I hate talking about myself."
"I always prepare well for interviews, but then I can never remember what to say."
"You always have to lie to get through interviews and I'm a rotten liar."
"I find it very hard to talk about my career without sounding like I'm boasting."
"I've never done anything special, so it's hard to sell myself at interview."
"They never gave me a chance to sell myself."

Do any of these sound familiar? Have a rummage around the links in the grey box at the top of the page to get some preliminary ideas.

Alternatively, give us a call. At Fortify, we can transform your understanding of the selection interview. We'll sit you down and find out what concerns you about the process. Then we'll put you through a practice interview, providing you with feedback and ideas at every step. We can also audio or videotape you in this session if you want.

But mostly, we'll help you map what you really have to offer against the requirements of the role for which you are being interviewed. We work across the spectrum of public service and private sector organisations, so whatever it is you're applying for, we've almost certainly got some insights to share.

Where possible, we recommend conducting your practice session 7-10 days before the real interview, so you have time to embed the improved approach. You'll walk into the interview calm, confident and ready to sell your key strengths. Modern job interviews are very structured - you have to be too. If this sounds like what you need, give us a call.

You can also read a brief extract from Where's My Oasis? which will give you some thoughts on how to deal with some of the trickier questions that can be asked at a job interview.
