Fresh, helpful, excellent, best that I have
seen *****
I work in career coaching and training for the post
graduate and executive markets and this is the best
set of tools that I have seen in 10 years. The author
is mindful of all of the key issues facing job hunters
today and displays his scope of knowledge and ideas
in every chapter.
I
particularly like the approach he suggests which
is determining a 5-10 year strategy (big picture)
and then laying your next move over that (little
picture) so that you are never losing sight of your
long term objectives. This kind of business thinking
applied to career planning makes perfect sense and
the author makes it so easy to do - his planning
materials are simply the best out there.
To
make things even easier for the reader, the author
(who is an Irishman) writes in a friendly and conversational
style, continually making his points with examples,
case studies, analogies and humour. A great book
and one that I will be recommending to all of my
clients from now on.

***** The Dr
Phil of careers books
Reviewer: Sarah Green "Green-eyed
Gal" (Bel Air, CA USA)
This guy is great! (I was sooo sorry to see that
he is married and lives on the other side of the
world) He should be on TV! This is in your face,
no time wasting stuff. The book is clean and simple,
covers everything I was concerned with, in a lovely
writing style with plenty of cross-referencing.
He also uses great quotes and references throughout
- I'm definitely going to lift some of them for
my next presentation.
The
writer has obviously been in the trenches (so much
of what he says sounds familiar to my experiences)
and his approach is based on giving you an understanding
of what/how the other guy is thinking. From that,
you develop a job-hunting strategy, rather than
a tactical, reactive approach. It just makes sense
and I know it is going to work. My confidence was
boosted just by reading the opening chapters. Reading
this book is like having a conversation with the
writer - I'd love to meet him!
I
have been thinking of moving company, and I picked
Oasis up in an airport bookstore - what
a stroke of luck. Every page held another gem (or
nugget) of information. I have completely put my
plans on hold, cos I have a LOT of work to do before
I make my next move. I have been downsized twice
since the NASDAQ crash in 2000 and this book will
help make sure that that never happens again - or
if it does that I'll be ready for it. I've read
Bolles and Lucht and Jackson and many others, but
Wheres My Oasis puts them all in the shade.
Buy it - you will not regret it. |

***** Where's
my Oasis?
Reviewer: A reader from
Buckinghamshire
Many books on job hunting, CV's, interviews are rather
unappetising - this book is quite the opposite. The
key selling point for me is that the author has taken
an innovative approach and the tools presented are
very thorough but clear. As a trainer in the area
of career management, I have read many career help
books and this is definitely one of the best - exceeded
expectations. |

Best of its kind
This is simply the best job hunting book I have
ever read. It is practical, comprehensive and written
by someone with obvious expertise in his subject.
This goes far beyond simply providing the reader
with the answers to all those horrible interview
questions. The author gives you real insight, both
into the mindset of the interviewer and, with his
excellent self-analysis tools, into yourself. Highly
recommended for anyone considering a career move
or a career change. |

Recommendation from a HR Manager
Reviewer: David
I have read this book, and am very impressed. The
author has distilled the current state-of-the-art
thinking in relation to the hiring process and has
presented this valuable information in a clear, concise
and entertaining way. I would go so far as to suggest
that if you are applying for employment you cannot
afford not to have this book, so vital is the content
to eliminating common (and not so common) errors which
diminish success. I cannot think of one person I have
interviewed (and there have been many) who would not
have improved their interview performance by reading
this book. This is set to become the standard text
in this field and is essential reading not only for
anyone applying for a job but for MBA and HR studies
students. |

***** Excellent!
- a breath of fresh air
Reviewer: Joseph Browne
from London UK
I found this book after browsing the author's very
informative website and I am delighted to say that
the book exceeded all of my expectations. It is
clear, positive, focused and every element is based
on the realities of competing in today's job market.
As someone who hasn't attended an interview in a
long time, I can only say that I am almost looking
forward to the one I will be sitting in a few weeks
time.
I
recruit management and staff for my department on
a regular basis and this book has also given me
useful insights to use from that side of the table
- I particularly liked what the author refers to
as "The Nightmare Interview" -
I will definitely be lifting some elements from
that in my future interviews and god help the poor
applicants on the other side of the table!
I
have read a number of books on this subject recently
in preparing for my job move, but this excellent
book really stands out from the others - I only
had need for the interview material, but I very
much enjoyed the other elements. The material is
deeply thought out and very well presented, with
a nice balance of 'stop and think' moments and teaching
material. I was surprised at how much I learnt from
my first reading and I have been drastically revising
my strategy for my forthcoming interview as a result
of the simple common sense approach that Mr Manahan
suggests. I couldn't recommend it more, put this
one on your shopping list. |

Get that job, and laugh while you learn how.
Reviewer: F.M. (Dublin,
Ireland)
This book doesn't just contain everything you need
to know and do to succeed in getting your perfect
job, it teaches you how to prepare yourself for every
stage of the process. Manahan knows his stuff, and
has a particular talent for getting his point across.
Every point is made clearly and with (often hilarious)
humour - I am experienced both as an interviewee and
an interviewer, and not only have I learned something
from every page of this book but I have laughed too.
Every possible aspect of the career searching process
is covered, with astounding attention to detail and
no waffle. Reading the book it is obvious that this
guy is vastly experienced has managed to write it
all down.
This book contains every secret the interviewers don't
want you to know! If you do what this book teaches
you, you can't go wrong. |

A WINNER! *****
I really enjoyed this book. At last, we have an author
who knows what it is like in the jobs market today.
No stuffy academic nonsense here - just practical,
simple ideas built around the reality of the modern
job hunt. A+ Mr Manahan - you have written the book
that will make the difference in my career!

SUPERB *****
I
agree with the Mr. Teh, this is a superb book. The
ideas presented are right up to the minute, the exercises
are invaluable, the text covers the entire spectrum
of jobhunting activities and it is a pleasure to read.
The book reminded me of What Colour Is Your Parachute
in its style, but while Parachute focuses
only on the American jobhunt and does not bother with
the fundamentals, Where's My Oasis is far
more practical and comprehensive. I will be recommending
this book to my colleagues in the University of Singapore.
Every graduate should be given a copy and every executive
should make it their bible.

I picked this amazing book up in London on a recent
trip and as far as career advice goes, this is as
good as it gets! Great ideas, great writing, all the
bases covered. I haven't read anything in this field
that can touch this book. All of my questions were
answered and many more were raised with these thought-provoking
ideas. Where’s My Oasis has it all
and makes you think about your life and career as
a complete picture. I loved the writing, the book
just flowed and was very enjoyable to read. This author
demonstrates his mastery of his subject and quickly
takes you through the resume and interview process
by breaking it down to its bare essentials and helping
you at every stage with elegant, simple tools. Way

***** I GOT
THE JOB!
Reviewer: Joseph Browne
from London
An update from my last review - I got the job! I
have written to Mr Manahan to thank him personally
for his ideas and his inspiring writing, but I just
had to say it here too.
The
two interviews I had to undergo didn't ruffle my
feathers at all having read and practised the ideas
in Oasis. I dread to think what would have
happened if I had been asked some of the more thorny
questions a few weeks ago, but the profiling, mapping
and rehearsal strategy that Mr Manahan outlines
made all the difference. I hate interviews and always
used to dread them. Now, I won't have to sit one
for a long time and if I do, I am not worried. The
feeling of confidence that I had going into the
interview just grew and grew as I could see the
answers I had developed reassuring the interviewers
and positioning me for the role. I can't recommend
this book enough. I hope it transforms your life
as much as it did mine. |

Exclusive Books.Com Review
According to Rowan Manahan, job-hunting is for dummies.
The really smart people "career-hunt."
Due to the fact that job security is a thing of
the past, it is vital to pursue a career that you
are good at, and that you enjoy. Manahan's recommended
approach to going about this includes getting shortlisted,
chance favouring the prepared mind, and remembering
at the end of the day that it is just a job.
Where's
My Oasis? goes about the career management
game in a holistic way, taking a look at career-planning,
finding your strengths, the route of entry into
the market, CVs, covering letters, applications,
interviews, and negotiating the best package. This
book is of great value to everyone looking for a
new job. Manahan's approach is targeted and professional,
and requires a considerable investment of time,
effort, and energy, but in the end, it promises
to be worth the additional input. |

Simply excellent. I haven't read too many books of
this sort, but this one answered all of my questions
and provided me with a strategic, long-term approach
to my job search which has boosted my knowledge and
greatly boosted my confidence. I have never before
understood why interviewers ask the questions they
do, now I am armed with more information on the interview
process than most interviewers I have encountered!
For me, the best parts of this book were that it was
user-friendly, very well organized and laid out, easy
to search through and very well written. |

Superb! Brim-full of great ideas
Reviewer: Kate Stevens (Edinburgh,
Scotland)
I
have read a number of the bestsellers in this category,
but this is a real treasure trove: warm, empathetic
writing; no jawbreaking jargon; clever, clever ideas.
At one point the author apologises for not turning
the secrets of job hunting into "rocket
science", but that is what makes this
book so valuable. He keeps it simple, condensing
it down to the essentials, but leaves no stone unturned.
The whole book is all based on the here-and-now
realities, and tinged with humour and situations
that I immediately recognized. The other useful
aspect of this book is that it covers the whole
hunt.
I
revisited my career choice using the tools he provides,
just to confirm that I am on the right path. His
career planning stuff is elegant and really helps
you maintain your focus. He covers in-depth research
and networking and even includes some constructive
ideas for public speaking and coping with stress
on and off the hunt. His CV and self-analysis material
is the best I have seen and his techniques for preparing
for interview are just inspiring!
This book has it all, if you google the title, you
will find some extracts on the web. Enjoy. |

Reviewer: Alan Reid (Surrey,

Excellent book. Manahan's no-nonsense style cuts
staight to the issues of interviewing and career
management. I only wish that the candidates I interview
on a regular basis were as prepared as Mr Manahan

help me hire the right person for the right job
quickly. I suggest you don't apply for a job without
reading this tome! Remember "duh!"

SIMPLY EXCELLENT A+++
Reviewer: Samuel Lee (Singapore)
This is a superb self-help book. The author has obviously
given a lot of thought on how to get his clever, simple
but ingenious ideas across. The result is a book that
at first looks daunting - it's BIG! But as soon as
you read a page, you realise that this fellow really
knows his stuff and he makes reading and learning
about it a pleasure.
Too many of these careers books are written by professors
who have never had to hunt for a real job, but this
fellow makes it all real and breaks it down into a
series of little pieces. I never felt that I had bitten
off more than I could chew as I went through his exercises.
10/10 for this one. He covers everything I was worried
about and even gave me some ideas on things I hadn't
thought of. The one area he doesn't address is psychological
testing, but maybe he will do another book to help
me with that. Simply excellent. |

A
really good book on this subject is hard to find,
but Oasis had everything I needed. Manahan
covers all of the high points of the job hunt and

High points: big ideas, very well written, thought-provoking,
comprehensive, can be dipped into.
Low points: doesn't address testing or profiling,
big book.

I felt that the author was in the room with me addressing

scope of the book is exhaustive. I now have a much
clearer and directed approach to my job search. I'm
more focused and better prepared than I have ever

and my answers are ready to go. Do a friend a favour

JOB SORTED
Reviewer: Colm Carey
Where's My Oasis is clearly designed to
lead the reader on a step-by-step safari to a satisfying
career. Given that so many people trip, stumble
and fall into inappropriate jobs, a chapter a day
should inspire the disenchanted to act... If someone
I know was looking for a job, would I gift them
this book? Yes, I would. But having confirmed that,
it would be only right to counsel them to pick and
choose from it based on their individual needs rather
than plough through it page by page. It might also
be worth suggesting that interested parties keep
it handy even when they have reached their 'oasis'.
No matter how comfortable we feel right now, we
should be looking to set out on the next journey. |

Crystal clear. It's brilliant. At last a book written

examples and case studies to illustrate his points
and everything he says makes perfect sense. The toolbox

Rating: 9.5 out of 10 Best
I've Ever Read
This book is a rare pearl. It is comprehensive,
a pleasure to read, conversational in tone and enormously
valuable. The author has taken the job hunting process
apart and broken it down into bite-sized chunks
that make the prospect of looking for a new job
much less daunting. The quality of the ideas and
the way in which the author brings you through the
process marks this book out from its peers.
The
other nice thing about Wheres My Oasis
is that it isn't yet another feel-good book by yet
another feel-good American writer. The author is
avowedly European in his writing style and in his
outlook. No pat answers, no slick 'sound-good' ideas,
no new-age bull. Smart, practical, applicable, invaluable.
I wish I had had a book like this ten years ago,
it would have made my last few moves much less difficult.
I give this one 9.5 out of 10. The only thing missing
is a discussion on aptitude testing and IQ testing. |

Customer Rating: ***** Building
Blocks to Success
By Johann Boetsch,
Pietersburg, South Africa
Where's
my Oasis is a down-to-earth guide to the recruitment
market and all of the intricacies of finding a good
job in the 21st century. The book is peppered with
examples and case studies; every pitfall and problem
in the market is identified and the reader is never
left hanging - the author always has a solution
or a 'first step' to take. I like his quotes and
anecdotes too, they were all relevant rather than
"padding" to fill out the book as I so
often see.
The
writing in the book is straight, upbeat and very
readable, even a little in-your-face at times. This
writer is talking from the heart and from his clients'
experiences. The book is a surprising mix of cheerful,
positive, forward-looking material combined with
some rather grim and downbeat assessments of the
job market and its likely future. The author makes
no apologies for his stance and his worldview and
while I didn't want to agree with everything he
said, I found that I couldn't fault his reasoning
either. There are excellent building blocks laid
out for the reader and the step-by-step approach
that the author advises is bound to bring success,
no matter how tough the market gets.
Having
read Where's My Oasis, I finally understand
where I have being going wrong in my job searches
and I now have the knowledge and the kit to go out
there and compete to win. If there is a job out
there that I am qualified for, this book will help
me get it. |
